The 17-7 stainless steel grade is particularly well suited for high strength, corrosion resistant applications. It performs well at temperatures up to 600ºF. Fabrication processes are similar to other chromium-nickel stainless steels. A martensitic steel, 17-7 may not be suitable for environments containing hydrogen sulfide, as it may be subject to cracking.
Iron 70-76%, Carbon 0.09%, Chrome, 16-18%, Aluminum 0.75-1.5%, Manganese 1%, Nickel, 6.5-7.75%, Phosphorus 0.04%, Sulphur 0.03%, Silicon 1%.
