The A286 stainless steel alloy is age-hardened, austenitic iron-based material ideal for applications that are exposed to a wide range of temperatures over time. Highly resistant to oxidation, even at elevated temperatures, this material is often used for its superior creep strength as well.
Chromium 13-16%, Nickel 24-27%, Molybdenum 1-1.5%, Cobalt 1%, Vanadium 0.10-0.5%, Aluminum 0.35%, Titanium 2%, Carbon 1%, Manganese 2%, Silicon 1%, Phosphorus 0.025%, Sulfur 0.025%, Remainder Iron.
Common Trade names
A-286 Super-alloy, A286 Stainless Steel
- High Strength from -320-1000ºF for extended periods
- Oxidation resistance with intermittent exposure to temperatures up to 1800ºF
- Easier to machine in the aged or cold worked condition
- Weldable by most fusion techniques
Uses for the A286 include jet engine components, fasteners and springs that are subjected to temperatures up to 1800ºF, and non-magnetic cryogenic equipment. Exhaust parts, turbines and nozzles utilized in the oil industry require the high tensile strength and good corrosion resistance.
